Many Reiki masters describe Reiki as a way of life. Of course, Reiki is not a religion, but there is a reason why masters describe Reiki that way. Most non-reiki practitioners assume Reiki is a healing system that is used to help heal ailments, or aid in quick recovery post trauma or surgery. That is all true, but you have one conversation with regular Reiki practitioners and you’ll know that it is more than that.
Reiki is a healing and relaxing energy that can be channeled through your chakras and the body to help oneself and others. As a Reiki channel, there is not limit as to how you use the energy you channel. Sure, you cannot use Reiki to harm others. It is inherently impossible to do that in Reiki, unlike some other forms of energy healing/channeling. But, that apart, you are just limited by your imagination as to how you use Reiki for your needs or other’s needs.
The reason why Reiki can be used for many needs is because of its inherent nature. Reiki is qi or prana energy that is being channeled from its divine source. You are channeling energy that is used for creation itself. So this energy has the power to create, not just heal.
Also, coming from a divine source, this energy has its own wisdom to decide the best resolution for any situation. A Reiki practitioner also has an intention on what Reiki should heal when they channel Reiki. These two intents – one divine and one mortal – together allow for endless creative possibilities.
These two qualities of Reiki make it the best suited energy for healing, guidance and manifestation. And those precisely are three major areas that we use Reiki for in our everyday life.
Reiki as a Healing Energy

Reiki heals in three stages – cleansing, energizing and shielding.
Being energy of healing, we can use Reiki to help heal our health issues – be it mental, spiritual or physical. So if any family member is feeling unwell, Reiki can help them relax and allow the body to speed up its natural healing. If someone is feeling upset or disturbed emotionally, Reiki can be channeled into them for easing the chakras of the pent up emotions and allow them to let go.
Reiki heals in three stages – cleansing, energizing and shielding.
Cleansing is where all the harmful energies present in various forms are removed from the situation or person. For instance, in a mentally disturbed person Reiki helps clear or reduce the intensity of disturbing or negative thoughts that are influencing the person or situation. Mal-intentions are removed. Similarly, with physical problems, Reiki helps cleanse the chakras that are disturbed and helps the body release toxins or other predatory agents out of the body.
Once cleansing is done, the person or situation is given nourishment needed to recover from the damage already done by the problem. Reiki flows into areas that need energy to help with the convalescence phase. It is not necessary that all of cleansing phase happens first and then followed by the energizing process. All the three stages of healing overlap each other or can happen in any order. Usually, energizing process is the one that takes significantly more time than cleansing or shielding process. But there will always be times when cleansing or shielding is more demanding than energizing.
The final process is shielding. This is to ensure that the person or situation receiving healing is not affected by harmful influences immediately and to make sure there is enough time for the person or the situation to improve without outside influences affecting them. As I mentioned before, sometimes shielding happens even before cleansing or healing.

Shielding trains and strengthens your natural aura.
In day to day living, there arise many situations where the healing ability of Reiki can be used. From problems like children being hurt from a fall or an adult hurting themselves in small accidents to helping with problems like headaches, body aches, or daily fatigue, Reiki becomes an indispensable tool for healing.
Since food can be infused with Reiki, several Reiki practitioners give Reiki to their food while cooking. This will help heal them and their family members receive daily healing effortlessly. Similarly water and even coffee and tea are given Reiki before being consumed. The intention of the Reiki practitioner in these uses is either specific for a cause or sometimes a general intent to heal all areas of life. In the latter case, Reiki uses its own wisdom to channel the healing to specific areas of life.
Reiki as a Guiding Force
Reiki carries its own wisdom that is both natural and divine in its nature. And it is not without its effect on a Reiki practitioner who channels Reiki every day. As Reiki passes through our own chakras, nadis and the body, we tend to pick up some of its wisdom and advice.
It is a very natural way of increases one’s own intuitive abilities. This can become very evident once our third eye becomes clear and active. Gassho meditation (see picture) is particularly useful to increase our intuitive, or even psychic, abilities through Reiki practice.

Gassho is a simple but
powerful meditation
that was taught by
Master Mikao Usui.
At Purple Room Healing,
we introduce this in our
Reiki First Level Course.
Reiki becomes our guide to get clarity in everyday issues. In everyday confusions or issues that need decisions, Reiki meditation can help us arrive at a conclusion. Being able to clear chakras, Reiki can help clear confusions in people’s minds and provide clarity for any situation.
There have been several instances in Reiki practitioners’ lives where a daily Reiki meditation or simply even asking Reiki for help has provided surprising insights into the problem. Right from providing timely advice to stop venting our frustrations on others to being guided to make huge decisions, Reiki has been a pathfinder for us several times across our journey.
Reiki is also particularly useful in helping people deal with their existential crisis. In terms of energy and chakras, we sometimes describe existential crisis as a blockage of Sahasrara (the Crown Chakra) which effectively cuts us off from being able to see the ‘big picture’ or lose faith in life. Sometimes it can also be a result of severely blocked Muladhara (the Root Chakra). In both cases, Reiki will ease the blockages or reconnect us back to our purpose in life.
And since Reiki inherently carries its own wisdom and consciousness, often times Reiki practitioners leave the end result to Reiki. In other spiritual practices, it is equivalent, to saying for the highest good. So there can be times when personal attachment to the person or the situation, a Reiki practitioner cannot decide what the best outcome is and in such cases they usually leave it to Reiki to decide the best course of healing or the outcome.
Reiki for Manifestation
Reiki is a creative energy. It can bring into reality that which is not already present. This makes Reiki one of the greatest sources for manifestation. Reiki manifestation is taught in any first level Reiki workshop. Once you are attuned to channel Reiki, you are already channeling energy to manifest.

Reiki is a powerful way to
fall in touch with
our real selves and
our real needs.
Of course, on knowing this, most of us plan to use it for achieving our greatest dreams. And yes, Reiki will certainly help you there – as long as your wishes are in alignment with your highest healing. Remember, Reiki has its own wisdom.
But there are also everyday opportunities to nudge our realities into directions we would want and this is where Reiki shines. Do you want your daughter to feel protected at her new school? Do you want to nail that interview for your dream job? Do you need that loan to be approved? Or do you simply need to find that key you’ve misplaced? The needs and possibilities for manifestation and Reiki are endless.
Daily worries and the nagging sense of helplessness is gone or significantly eased for a daily Reiki practitioner. There is a sense of control and destiny. It helps us master our fates even in its smallest details and get flowing in our lives.
Reiki is a powerful way to fall in touch with our real selves and our real needs. It helps us understand who we really are and what we are looking for. Once the intention is clear, manifestation begins. Reiki helps with both.
Again, you can also let Reiki decide what’s best for you and allow it to nudge you in the right direction.
For Reiki practitioners and Reiki masters, Reiki is that everyday tool and a way of life that helps us tide over the swells and ebbs of everyday life while, at the same time, helping us move closer to the reality we want to live in.
Reiki is not a blessing in disguise, it is the blessing. Every time you channel Reiki, either for yourself or for others, you are blessing yourself and sending out blessings to the world. It is the energy of Love – the one that connects and binds us. Reiki helps create new bonds and let go of old ones that have become restrictive, it helps us create, sustain and heal.
That is why we describe Reiki as a way of life even though it is not a religion nor does it impose any rules on our way of life. We evolve with Reiki and become a better version of ourselves with daily channeling.
