Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that promotes general well-being and relaxation and reduces anxiety and stress. Reiki is a hands on healing technique that works by sending healing energies into your body to promote healing. Reiki is also used to cleanse spaces, create positive vibrations and to create and prepare charms and amulets for healing, luck, and for other manifestation purposes. Reiki is not a religion and can be practiced by anyone who has an interest in exploring alternate methods of healing.
Reiki is taught through transmission of Reiki healing energy from a Reiki Master to a Reiki student. Reiki transmission is done by a process called Reiki attunement that a Reiki Master or a Reiki Grandmaster performs on a Reiki student. And Reiki students are trained in Reiki classes that are divided into various Reiki Levels.
This post will clarify the various Reiki healing levels and how classes or workshops are conducted. I will also attempt to explain what will be taught in each Reiki Level and how Reiki courses are conducted. We will also cover the eligibility required for you to participate in each Reiki healing level.
Reiki Levels / Reiki Degrees Explained
There are various schools of Reiki and each follow a system of teaching and have their own Reiki classes laid out. These Reiki levels are usually decided by the lineage followed by the school of Reiki. Lineage is the way of tracing the line of Reiki masters back to Reiki Grandmaster and the founder of Reiki – Dr. Mikao Usui. And the current living Reiki Master in that lineage decides the Reiki healing levels to be set for any particular Reiki healing center or even set of Reiki schools.
So some Reiki schools follow 5 Levels of Reiki training classes and others follow 4 Reiki levels of teaching based on the Reiki lineage that they follow. At Purple Room Reiki Healing Center in Hyderabad we follow the William Lee Rand lineage. This is the lineage where our current living Reiki Master or, rather, Reiki Grandmaster is William Lee Rand. Therefore our Reiki training center in Hyderabad follows a 4 Reiki levels system of energy healing classes. They are Reiki Level 1, Reiki Level 2, Reiki Level 3 or Advanced Reiki Training and Reiki Master Course.
The terms Reiki levels and Reiki degrees are interchangeable. They mean one and the same thing. So a Reiki level 1 training is the same as a Reiki 1st degree class.
Below you will find what each Reiki level of training teaches and how our Reiki levels of energy healing courses in Hyderabad differ from Reiki levels of other Reiki healing schools. At our Hyderabad branch of Purple Room Healing Center, we simply use the term Reiki level.
Reiki Level 1 / Reiki 1st Degree
Since we follow the lineage and the recommendation of William Lee Rand school of Reiki, it is mandatory for students to attend both Reiki Level 1 class and Reiki Level 2 class together as a single Reiki course. This is a two day workshop where Reiki 1st Degree is taught on the first day, followed by Reiki 2nd Degree on the second day.
Reiki Level 1 taught at the Purple Room Reiki Healing Center in Hyderabad is the beginner level of training for anyone who is interested in learning Reiki sealing system. As I pointed out earlier, the ability to channel Reiki is transmitted by an Reiki attunement given by a Reiki Master to the Reiki student. This is precisely what happens in Reiki Level 1 class. The student is introduced to what Reiki is and what it’s basic principles are and then the Reiki Master performs an attunement on the student. After the attunement, the Reiki student is able to channel and use Reiki energies.
In Reiki Level 1 class, we also teach the student how to use Reiki for various healing purposes in a one-on-one setting. Reiki level 1 gives the student the ability to use Reiki on themselves and others in hands-on healing sessions. So the student is taught how the various hand positions for using Reiki on oneself. It is called a full body Reiki healing on self. The student is also taught the various hand positions for giving Reiki healing to others in a hands-on Reiki healing session. A hands-on Reiki healing session is a one-on-one session where the Reiki client is physically present with the Reiki healer to receive healing.
In Reiki Level 1 training, the student is also introduced to the Chakra system of the the energy body and how they relate to healing or sickness. The Reiki student is then taught how to scan the Chakra system with Reiki and channel Reiki to the chakras that are blocked or need healing. In Reiki Level 1 class, the student is also taken through a meditation method that is to be used by the student everyday, preferably in the morning, to help them increase their connection with Reiki healing energies and also to improve their intuitive abilities.
In order for the ability to channel Reiki healing energy to become very strong and permanent, the student must perform a full body Reiki healing on self everyday for a minimum of 21 days. This will strengthen the flow of Reiki healing energy in the Reiki healer, that is the student, and also make it a permanent flow for the Reiki healer.
Reiki’s healing energies do not deplete the Reiki healer of their energies nor do they bring back the client’s energies into the Reiki Healer. In fact, every Reiki healing session helps the Reiki healer heal themselves too. However, due to the nature of the client healer interaction, the personality of the healer, and how you may react/respond to the client when they open up and speak of their personal problems, there is a possibility that the Reiki healer connect at an emotional level with the client and thus form energetic cords or pick up energies from the client. In order to cut these cords and to clear up any energies that the Reiki healer may have picked up accidentally in their Reiki healing session with the client, we teach our students a simple but powerful technique that the Reiki healer needs to perform at the end of every full body, hands-on Reiki healing performed on others.
There are few other topics too discussed in the Reiki 1st Degree class, including a study on the history of Reiki, the ideals of Reiki as practiced by Dr. Mikao Usui, Byosen scanning method and, it time permits, a fun scanning method to find the size of the aura of a Reiki student.
After the successful completion of Reiki Level 1 training, the student becomes a Reiki healer and is eligible for starting a professional Reiki healing practice after their 21 self healing period is successfully completed.

Reiki Level 2 / Reiki 2nd Degree
As I said earlier, we at the Purple Room Healing center in Hyderabad, teach Reiki Level 1 and Reiki Level 2 classes together in a two day workshop training.
Attending the Reiki Level 2 class gives the Reiki healer an ability to channel and send Reiki healing remotely. The clients need not be present physically at the Reiki healer’s place in order to receive a full Reiki healing. Reiki Level 2 training focuses on symbols. Symbols are used by Reiki healers to channel specific Reiki healing energies that work on specialized areas of healing. There are three symbols taught in Reiki 2nd degree course. These symbols, of course, are valueless to the Reiki student without an attunement performed by the Reiki Master. After receiving the attunement, the Reiki healer is able to channel the Reiki healing energies associated with each of the three symbols taught in the Reiki Level 2 workshop.
Each symbol has a specific set of functions and they are discussed in the Reiki training subsequently. The Reiki healer is taught when and how to channel the Reiki energies for each of these symbols. The Reiki Master also teaches the student how to perform a distance healing for others.
Cleansing spaces of negative energies and improving the vibes of the space are taught in Reiki 2nd Degree Class.
After learning Reiki 2nd Level healing, you will be able to cleanse spaces, send healing to animals and plants, and also send healing to situations. So the Reiki Master teaches how to scan a place, how to sense energies of the place and how to cleanse a place and rid the place of negative energies and fill the space with positive, healing energies. A discussion on the nature of energy attachments and spirit energies follows. It is but a brief introduction to a vast topic.
In Reiki Level 2 training, the Reiki Master also teaches the Reiki healer how to cleanse and program crystals for personal use and for manifestation purposes. A modification of the meditation taught in the Reiki Level 1 class is imparted that helps the Reiki healer use a powerful shielding and cleansing technique for themselves and also for others when the need arises.
With Reiki Level 2 workshop, the Reiki healer’s ability to channel Reiki increases tenfold and they will be able to harness the power of Reiki even better.
At our Hyderabad branch of Purple Room Reiki healing center, it is mandatory to complete both Reiki Level 1 and Reiki Level 2 together in a two-day workshop training.
Reiki Level 3 / Reiki 3rd Degree / Advanced Reiki Training – ART
A powerful grounding and cleansing mediation called Moving Meditation is taught in Advanced Reiki Training class.
Reiki Level 3 or Advanced Reiki Training (ART) is taught at our Purple Room Healing Hyderabad center to Reiki healers who have completed Reiki Level 1 and Reiki Level 2 training and have practiced a minimum of six months both on themselves as well as on others. It is not strictly necessary that the Reiki Healers must have practiced at a professional level in the six month period.
Reiki Level 3 class is an advanced training in Reiki healing systems with tools and techniques imparted by the Reiki Master that will vastly increase the healing and channeling abilities of Reiki healers in their daily and professional practice. A new symbol is attuned for the student and the student is also taught an advanced healing technique called psychic surgery. This helps deal with tough emotional wounds like heavy trauma from the past with effectiveness and ease.
An exercise is also taught in the Reiki 3rd degree class that lays foundation for Reiki Master level course. The student is expected to master the exercise before they come for the Reiki Master class. Also taught in the Reiki 3 level training is a powerful grounding meditation that both grounds the practitioner as well as cleanses the space they do the meditation in.
Reiki Master Course / Reiki Grandmaster Class / Reiki Level 4A / Reiki Level 4B
Reiki Mastership class is taken a minimum one year of rigorous practice by the Reiki student who has completed Reiki Level 3 training. They must have done Reiki healing sessions for people outside of their family and friend circle. It is good if the participant has had a professional exposure in Reiki healing practice.
In our Reiki Healing school in Hyderabad (Purple Room Healing), we teach Reiki Level 4a and Reiki Level 4b together in one class. And as such it is called Reiki Master course. So our school does not recognize the title of Reiki Grandmaster, rather reserves that term to someone who is a very experienced Reiki healer – someone like William Lee Rand. Some Reiki schools, the same Reiki course is taught in two workshops and are named Reiki Master Course and Reiki Grandmaster Course. In such case, a Reiki student is taught how to perform an attunement for Reiki Level 1, Reiki Level 2 and Reiki Level 3 in the Reiki Master Class training, while the knowledge on how to attune a Reiki Master is taught in the Reiki Grandmaster class. In our school, we train students in giving attunement for all levels of Reiki including Reiki Master in a one day Reiki Master training class.
Certificates of participation are provided for all Reiki training classes. Though these courses are not recognized by any government authorities, these certificates have been useful in the past for our Reiki students, Reiki healers and Reiki Masters who trained with our Purple Room Healing center in Hyderabad. Some organizations and health institutes appreciate an additional Reiki healing ability in their employees and as such these certificates have increased the chances of our Reiki Healers in securing occupations such places.
