Note:
Classes start 2nd Jan 2020.
Classes will be conducted at 11 am every Thursday at Siddhartha Nagar.

We’re starting the Vedic Chanting monthly classes called Veda Adhyayanam at Sankalpam. These classes are a part of our Healing through Lifestyle Habits initiative where we aim to bring in awareness of everyday practices to heal and rejuvenate the body, mind and soul. These classes are being conducted by Shanti Mani, a Yoga Acarya (Yoga Teacher) trained in the tradition of Sri Krishnamacarya (more about her below).
Mantras heal at the physical, physiological and mental levels. Vedic Chanting calms the mind and makes it fit for deeper meditative practices.
Here’s a brief write up about the Vedic Chanting classes by Shanti Mani, Yoga Acarya:
Veda Adhyayanam refers to the ancient discipline of oral transmission of vedic mantras from teacher to student. The vedas were intuitively perceived by great seers or rsis in a state of deep meditation. These deep spiritual insights were then taught to their disciples through oral instructions. Such traditions of vedic chanting are among the oldest, unbroken oral traditions in the world today. In 2003, UNESCO proclaimed the tradition of Vedic Chanting as a “Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.”
The Vedas are not only the source of all spiritual knowledge, containing deep philosophical insights, but also guide a person on how to make each action a yajna or an offering. With the purification of the three karanas of kaya, vak and manas, the citta or the mind-body complex gets purified.
Sanskrit, the language of the Vedas, is highly scientific and every akshara – vowel and consonant, is considered to be a “Bija-akshara”, that possesses great potency.
“Manana traayate iti mantrah”. Mantras protect the chanter and the listener as they connect one to the divine. They energise the environment and create positive vibrations. Mantras heal at the physical, physiological and mental levels. Vedic Chanting calms the mind and makes it fit for deeper meditative practices.
Regular chanting is helpful in strengthening the breath capacity and is a boon for those with shortness of breath.
Sri Krishnamacarya opened the doors of Vedic Chanting to women as well, for the purpose of “Kamya Adhyayanam”.
I invite you all to experience this rich tradition of Vedic Chanting and discover its powerful healing potential. The classes will cover select portions of the Krishna Yajurveda and slokas on health and wellness, following the rules of chanting.

About the teacher Shanti Mani:
Shanti Mani is a yoga acarya trained in the tradition of Sri Krishnamacarya and teaches Viniyoga and Vinyasa Yoga. The core belief of this tradition of Raja Yoga is that every individual is unique in his mind-body-spirit complex and should be given a practice accordingly. Encompassing all the limbs of yoga, she has been teaching since 2014.
She has also completed the Healing Chants Teachers Training Programme from Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram. Vedic chanting is an integral part of this system of yoga and when recited correctly, can confer innumerable benefits to the chanter and listener.
Integrating yoga asanas with theses chants or infusing the breath with these potent mantras can help heal at the physical, physiological and mental levels.
She has also taught the same to differently-abled children, the elderly and in charitable organisations.
