Should you learn Reiki instead of receiving healing? Benefits of learning Reiki over attending a healing session.

I get this question many times from my clients and others. Many times I recommend clients to attend a Reiki class over attending healing sessions simply because it makes a lot more sense to learn and start practicing Reiki at home by yourself than to receive a bunch of healing sessions from a Reiki master. Of course, there are times when attending Reiki sessions may still be needed but more about it later.

Reiki is a healing and meditative practice that originated in Japan. It functions on the principle that there is life-sustaining energy (qi or chi) energy that permeates everything in the creation and we can learn to channel and use that energy to heal ourselves. Reiki is the art of channeling this qi into ourselves or others and bring about a shift in their state of being.

Everyday healing is better than occasional healing

There are two ways you can traditionally receive Reiki healing. The first is visiting a Reiki Healer and receiving a healing from them. In this method of healing, the Reiki healer diagnoses your problem and sends Reiki to the affected areas. A Reiki healer is one who has the ability to channel Reiki through them and is well practiced in the healing art.

The second way of experiencing Reiki healing is by learning to channel Reiki through you. You attend a level 1 Reiki class and receive an attunement from a Reiki master. Attunement is the process in which a Reiki master/grandmaster opens up, clears and prepares your chakras to receive and channel Reiki. After attunement you will have the ability to channel Reiki and give yourself healing. You can even start sending Reiki to others.

There are several advantages to learning Reiki yourself over attending Reiki healing sessions. Here are some important differences.

Everyday healing is better than occasional healing

Healing is the process of alleviating stress in the body, mind or spirit and allowing the stressed organs or functions to heal themselves. When we allow stress to accumulate over time then it can lead to acute dysfunctions of the body or mind and we may eventually need a stronger medical/healing intervention. We are creatures capable of self-healing if only we provide our bodies and mind the time and energy needed to repair itself.

A daily Reiki practice heals the body, mind and spirit on a regular basis and helps us keep tabs on our general well-being. It gives us an ability to manage daily stresses and also offers opportunity to address traumas of the past. The biggest healing I received from my early years of Reiki practice was that my personal fears and panics subsided and I became calmer in my daily routine.

Reiki practice is a meditative session

Meditation is something that most of us think about practicing but a very few of us actually end up making it a part of our daily practice. The most common reason I hear from clients who gave up meditation is because they are unable to concentrate or focus. The truth is that meditation is not single-pointed focus. In fact, the ability to focus or concentrated is a benefit of regular meditation, not the pre-requisite.

Meditation is a relaxed awareness; it is being in the moment. Meditation allows the natural healing processes within to work their magic. Reiki practice of self-healing requires you to place your palms over various chakras or organs in your body and send Reiki into those chakras or organs. This is a very powerful meditation session that allows our body and mind to open up to not only receiving Reiki but also to improve our intuitive awareness of self and the moment. We are in deep meditation when we practice the daily Reiki self-healing session.

Your family has a healer now

After you attend a Reiki level 1 session and receive an attunement, you become capable of giving Reiki to others. You are in effect a Reiki Healer. Having a Reiki healer in the family has several untold benefits. I have personally experienced the immense advantage of giving timely healing to my husband, child and others in my family with Reiki. Our well-being is affected by several aspects in our life including food, familial relationships, economic conditions, social interaction and several others. Reiki has become an invaluable aid to take care of several of these aspects in my family life. Right from managing the mood swings of my family members to taking care of emotional well-being of my child, Reiki has been the biggest resource for me ever.

You can address all the small daily headaches much more efficiently without resorting to outside healing sessions every time something crops up. For me, Reiki has personally been the go-to method to address several small issues that can crop up any day in my daily routine. The confidence that comes from being able to address issues which used to leave you helpless earlier is something to be felt and experienced.

Keep your house and workplace cleansed

Reiki can be used not only to heal our bodies and minds, it also helps with taking care of house energies and fearful situations in life. Every place has its energy fingerprint, so to speak. But it is not a static and permanent state of energy, rather it is a flux that is affected by and, in turn, influences the situations and the people that move through the space. So our houses can be affected by us and our family members, energies that we carry through it, people who visit our homes, events and situations that take place there. Learning Reiki gives us the ability to keep our places regularly cleansed and also, if necessary, intervene whenever there is a dynamic shift in the energies of the place.

You open up a huge metaphysical doorway

Reiki focusses on opening up and clearing energy pathways in ourselves. This wakes up a lot of our latent intuitive abilities. We become acutely aware of subtler connections between our bodies and minds. We learn of our own manifesting ability and understand how our external reality is intimately connected with our inner realities. We interact with energies that we haven’t even known existed before. We learn how to protect, heal and transform energies even before they manifest into our outer realities. Life becomes fuller and more meaningful.

Economic advantage of learning over receiving healing

Of course, there is an immense economic advantage of learning Reiki. You don’t have to consult a Reiki healer every time something crops up in your life. You are not paying for individual sessions. You simply sit down and start giving Reiki to the problem.

Of course, like I mentioned earlier, there are times when you may have to ask for help of a fellow Reiki healer. But those are extenuating circumstances rather than daily situations. For instance, a family emergency affects us very strongly and we may need the help of another Reiki healer because we are too occupied and exhausted by the care-giving process. But usually Reiki healers tend to be in touch with their Reiki masters or be a part of an online healers group, so getting outside help is quicker in case of emergencies.

Reiki is a way of life

Reiki is not a religious practice. Neither does it place restrictions over your lifestyle choices like food or occupation in order to practice it. It is a complementary practice which means you can use it with your other practices such as Yoga, Tai Chi, Pranic Healing, Zen, etc.

But Reiki is also more than a healing technique. It is a way of life. In that, with practice, you understanding the processes of mind-body connection, how stress can manifest itself, you understand mind and its workings, you realize the flow of energies in life and body, you understand the sources of your stresses better, and we understand ourselves better.

As a Reiki master, I’ve attuned several people into Reiki healing over the past decade. I have received a lot of feedback on how Reiki healing has helped all individuals including housewives, students, professionals, and the elderly. I have a been personal witness to healing through many trying times and situations in my family. As a central figure in my family, Reiki has helped me look at life from a new perspective that not only helped me heal but also helped me keep my family well and safe throughout our journey in life. So yeah, if you ask me, I’d say learn Reiki, practice well, heal yourself and heal others.
